History

  1. Establishment of Korean Studies at the Department of Asian Studies

2003/04: the start of teaching Korean language as a facultative subject by RYU Hyeonsook

2008/09 to 2017: financially supported by the Korea Foundation, a visiting professor of Korean language teaches three levels of the Korean Language I, II, and III, which sets the foundation for the establishment of Korean Studies

2009/2010: establishment of Korean Studies as a part of BA (Bologna) study programme Cultures of East Asia

2012/13: financially supported by the Academy of Korean Studies, a visiting professor for Korean literature, KANG Byoung Yoong PhD joins the Department of Asian Studies

2015/16: establishment of the undergraduate study programme (BA) of Korean Studies at the Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. The curriculum consists of Modern Korean I, II, III and socio-cultural subjects, such as Korean Literature, Korean Society, Korean History, Korean Tradition etc.

  • November 22 – 25 – Attendance at Daegu Keimyung University International Symposium by prof. Chikako SHIGEMORI BUČAR PhD and doc. KANG Byoung Yoong PhD
  • November 22 – Signing the Agreement of Research Exchange between Centre for Korean Studies, University of Ljubljana and Centre for Korean Studies, Korea University
  • November 16 – Signing the Agreement for Academic Research and Cooperation between Centre for Korean studies, Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and Centre for Korean Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia

  • December 9 and 14 – A special lecture by a Korean writer, SHIN Youngson “Antique Korea and Art”, supported kindly by LTI
  • November 17-20 – The 2nd Korean Film Days (Kino Bežigrad) sponsored by the Korean Embassy in Vienna
  • November 17 – The 4th Korean Speech Contest in Slovenia
  • August – visit of a Korean poet and a nominee for Nobel Price for Literature, KO Un. During his stay, he also attended the event “Poetry and Wine Days”, with the help of Literature Translation Institute of Korea and Beletrina Publishing Company
  • August – Publishing the first translated work from Korean into Slovene, a collection of poems by KO Un “Pišem v zrak”, translated by KANG Byoung Yoong PhD, Aleš ŠTEGER and Eva VUČKOVIČ
  • May 25 – A special lecture in Cankarjev Dom by KANG Byoung Yoong PhD – Evening of Modern Korean Poetry
  • May 9 – A special lecture by KIM Youngsung PhD, a foreign professor at Qingdao University of technology and a radio scriptwriter (of KBS, CBS, TJB and TBN)
  • May 6-7 – The 4th Korean International Symposium “Teaching Materials to Promote Korean and East Asian Studies in Central Europe”
  • March – Establishment of Korean Studies Students’ Association “Koreanistično društvo Dajeong” at the Faculty of Arts (representative Mojca NOVAK)
